Personal Research Statement

I am working on two different models that could be used by intelligent, automated actors able to improvise their behavior in a given context. The first model is psychological; it integrates the notions of personality, moods and interpersonal relationships. The second model is conversational; it takes into account the communication acts that are performed by the conversational participants, the way each action is interpreted and planned as well as the conceptual content of the exchanged information. For each model, I am developing mechanisms that influence actors' behavior. Both models are being tested in an interactive system called the Cybercafé.
