Let me add that a substantial minority of A.I.
researchers in the knowledge representation area
consider that the word "ontology" is being abused by
the rest of us, because we use it for rather specific
concept-systems far removed from the traditional,
philosophical high-level meaning of "ontology". (For
this reason I've called my master-list of them a list of
"concept systems" rather than "ontologies" -- I
promulgate this list by email now and then). I can imagine
the distress of philosophers who hear about "the
ontology of Microsoft Word".
