Pat's suggestion of type information being specified as such strikes
me as a reasonable one, although it will obviously be important to
make the type information "transparent" to systems that aren't
expecting it.

Sour grapes in hand (?), I should point out that this kind of
distinction (useful content for one kind of language but no semantic
impact for others) is exactly what my KIF "counterproposal" was
intended to support (said proposal was written up in my AI Magazine
KIF paper, among other places).

Of course, the KIF committee didn't ever as much as respond to that
proposal because it was (1) simple and (2) gave them no real
opportunity to aggressively propagate other linguistic choices in
which they had either a research or financial interest. (Half a : )
there.)
