This tutorial was developed by Sunil Vemuri and Tom Gruber at the Stanford Knowledge System Lab. The DME system is a product of the How Things Work project. The code and algorithms for explanation generation were developed by Tom Gruber and Patrice Gautier. The simulation and model formulation approaches in DME are largely due to Yumi Iwasaki and her influences from the Qualitative Reasoning community.

For more information on explanation generation in DME, see the overview of machine-generated explanation.

We hope you enjoyed this and learned something. If you find that you can use some of the ideas from this work in your research or application, we would appreciate an acknowledgement.
