The power cycle we are going to analyze is shown below. We will call the design, POWER-SYSTEM-EIGHT-ONE. It is a textbook example of the design of a basic, vapor power plant, consisting of standard components. A power plant produces a net power output from an energy source of chemical, nuclear or solar origin. A vapor power plant has the working fluid that is alternately vaporized and condensed. The example comes from Chapter 8 of "Fundamentals of Engineering Thermodynamics" by Moran and Shapiro (John Wiley & Sons, Second edition, 1988).
