Abstract: In order to simulate the behaviour of engineering systems, we need to start with a structural model of the system. This structural model is then analyzed to detect which physical processes would be active in the system. Some equations would be applicable when these processes occur. These processes and equations can then be analyzed to predict the behaviour of the system. This requires the use of first-principles knowledge about the engineering systems of interest. This report describes the design and implementation of a system to achieve this task. It describes the knowledge that is necessary in order to build a model of engineering systems, in particular that of electrical systems. It discuss the representation of such knowledge and how this knowledge can be used to generate the set of active processes and equations for a particular system whose behaviour is to be simulated.
